Carrefour Qatar has launched a special fundraising campaign to mark the ‘International Day to Protect Education from Attack’ to support vulnerable children and learners all over the world.
Initiated by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All (EAA) Foundation and United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals Advocate, and adopted by the UN, the ‘International Day to Protect Education from Attack’ was established earlier this year and will be observed annually on September 9 to call attention to the challenges facing over 75mn 3 to18-year-olds living in 35 crisis-affected countries, and their lack of educational support.
To help raise more awareness of these issues, Carrefour Qatar’s fundraising campaign will raise funds, to be donated to the EAA Foundation’s Unite To Protect campaign.
Customers in Qatar were given the opportunity to donate to the campaign whenever they visited any one of Carrefour’s stores across the country. Carrefour doubled the amount donated by customers on September 9 – International Day to Protect Education from Attack – contributing to the EAA’s developmental efforts for protection of education.
The launch of this fundraising initiative follows a two-week back-to-school campaign, in which Carrefour Qatar donated QR2 to the EAA Foundation every time a customer scanned their MyClub barcode in the process of purchasing stationery, school bags or computers.
Laurent Hausknecht, country head of Carrefour Qatar, said: “We have committed to helping to transform the lives of vulnerable and at-risk children by offering them access to quality education. As members of the community, we each have a role to play to protect the future of learners and their education. We aim to build on this initiative so that, together, we can create great moments for children in dear need of support.”
Mubarak al-Thani, communication manager and Head of Advocacy at EAA Foundation, said: “Education Above All Foundation is pleased to work alongside partners like Carrefour Qatar who support our vision of bringing hope and real opportunities to the lives of impoverished and marginalised children, youth and women — especially in the developing world and areas of conflict and natural disasters. #UniteToProtect campaign will encourage the public to do more in order to protect the education of children and learners in the most vulnerable communities. The campaign aims to create a strong ethos built on global justice and awareness on attacks on education and efforts to stop them.”
