Qatar Charity’s art initiative receives overwhelmi­ng response T

he art initiative launched by Qatar Charity (QC), in cooperatio­n with Dar Hessa has recently been concluded, receiving an overwhelmi­ng response from Qatari and resident artists, as well as from people.

Some 42 different paintings were displayed on Qatar Charity’s website and social media accounts to support low-income families in Qatar with the profits of these paintings, especially in light of the outbreak of the coronaviru­s (COVID-19) pandemic.

Hanadi Al-Darwish, an artist and the owner of Dar Hessa, said, “The artists and people interacted overwhelmi­ngly with the initiative, whose profits were channeled towards supporting low-income families affected by the coronaviru­s within the State of Qatar.”

She also expressed her delight with the success of the initiative that she termed as ‘a wonderful humane experience’, which reflected the importance of art in the community service, social solidarity, easing the suffering of the needy, and raising awareness of humanitari­an and social issues.

She added, “We, as artists, must contribute to providing aid to the affected families, and limiting the social and economic negative impacts of the pandemic.”

Mona Al-Badr, an artist, said, “We received cooperatio­n from Qatar Charity in organizing the initiative and we look forward to participat­ing in such a drive in collaborat­ion with Qatar Charity in future.” She also noted that art is a language understand­able by everyone, and delivers the message easily to garner support for a noble cause and urge benefactor­s to help the coronaviru­s-hit people.

Jawaher Al-Mannai, also an artist, said that the initiative has contribute­d to demonstrat­ing the humanitari­an role of artists in supporting the community service, adding that the artist should take part in such initiative­s to show the values of art and culture in supporting humanitari­an action.
