MME honours cleaning workers

MME to launch public contest today as part of World Cleanup Day

The Ministry of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t (MME) yesterday honoured cleaning workers and organised a beach clean-up campaign as part of the observance of World Cleanup Day.

In a statement, the MME said that a number of cleaning workers were honoured in appreciati­on of their daily efforts in maintainin­g public cleanlines­s throughout the country.

Some administra­tive officials of the ministry were present on the occasion.

The MME’s General Cleanlines­s Department also organised a campaign to clean Al Wakrah beach in co-operation with talabat.

Various kinds of waste were collected and removed during the initiative, the ministry said.

World Cleanup Day falls on the third Saturday of September annually.

Continuing with its World Cleanup Day celebratio­ns, the MME will today launch a competitio­n for the public on social media with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of public hygiene and its role in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Regarding the campaign to clean Al Wakrah Beach, General Cleanlines­s Department assistant director Mohamed Faraj alKubaisi said that the initiative came within the framework of the MME’s interest in preserving the cleanlines­s of beaches throughout the country as well as its keenness to participat­e in World Cleanup Day.

World Cleanup Day is an occasion to raise awareness among the public about the importance of keeping beaches clean, he added.
