MES wins overall championship at interschool Hindi competition
With an objective to stimulate students’ interest in learning the Hindi language, and as a part of Hindi Day celebrations, MES Indian school recently conducted ‘Chetana-2020’, an interschool online competition, in the following items and categories; action song for sub junior, poem recitation for junior, essay writing for intermediate, story writing for senior and poem writing for super senior.
A total of 120 students from 14 Indian schools in Qatar took part in the competition. The panel of judges comprised Dr Vinod Chauhan Prasoon, poet, writer, language trainer and head of Hindi department at DPS Greater Noida; Dr K Sukumaran, former principal of University College, Kariyavattom, University of Kerala; Sudhakan Pillai, higher secondary school teacher for higher grade Hindi at Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School Thazhava, Kollam; Sajitha Punnassery, assistant professor of Hindi at Nehru Arts and Science College, Coimbatore; Anant K Kesari, senior manager Sales, Marketing and Business at US QSA Thermal, Florida Q Shield; Sanjay Mahendru, shift supervisor with QG 3&4; and Padmawati Pande, teacher and educator.
The felicitation ceremony for ‘Chetana-2020’ was conducted on the virtual platform. Dr Vinod, who was also chief guest, emphasised that teachers need to adopt modern approaches to teach and promote Hindi. Hameeda Kadar, MES principal and guest of honour, highlighted importance of Hindi and its farreaching influence on society.
Rajendran S, programme coordinator, announced the results. MES was adjudged the overall winner of the competition.
Punit Pande secured first prize in the super senior category for the poem writing contest. In the senior category for story writing, Shakti Suresh Iyer secured third position.
In the intermediate category for essay writing, Vandana Sajeev Kumar won second prize. Shreya Hari secured first prize in action song in the sub junior category while Vedha Virendra Redkar got second prize in the junior category for recitation.
A cultural programme by the students included; patriotic songs, group dance, group song and poem recitation. Ayana Sameer welcomed the gathering. Safa Shaikh proposed vote of thanks. Alisha Leanne Rodrigues and Syed Yasir compered the programme.
Rajendran S, convener of the Hindi Day celebrations, in association with teachers of the Hindi department co-ordinated the event. Officials and teachers of CBSE schools attended the programme. The felicitation ceremony was live streamed on the school Facebook page.
