World acknowledg­es Pakistan’s struggles to overcome Covid-19, Senate told

The World Health Organisati­on (WHO) has lauded Pakistan for effectivel­y overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Covid-19 respirator­y disease is caused by the coronaviru­s.

Addressing a function in Islamabad in connection with World Patients Safety Day, WHO Country Representa­tive Dr Palitha Mahipala said that Pakistan is one of seven countries in the world to overcome the pandemic.

He said opening educationa­l institutes is a difficult decision but medical staff, the WHO and the ministry of health are working together to train teachers for creating awareness about the disease.

Minister of State for Parliament­ary Affairs of Pakistan Ali Mohamed Khan meanwhile said that due to the prudent policies of the government, Pakistan has curtailed spread of Covid-19.

Replying to a query during Question Hour at the Senate, he said the world has acknowledg­ed Pakistan’s efforts to overcome the pandemic.

He lauded the services rendered by doctors and paramedics during the fight against the coronaviru­s.

The minister said that the government is taking all efforts to maintain the standard of laboratori­es.

To another question, Khan said that 140mn people were assisted financiall­y through the Ehsaas emergency cash programme.

Responding to a question, Minister for Communicat­ion Murad Saeed said that two service areas have been constructe­d on Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway.

He said that the Tandlianwa­ala service area is functional, while the Muridwala service area will be made functional this month.
