Ehsan Day Clubs events continue via social media

-

The Elderly Empowerment and Care Centre (Ehsan) has launched a campaign under the title “Continuous support” through its social media platforms, it was announced yesterday.

The initiative is part of a series of virtual programmes for Ehsan Day Clubs, in order to maintain continuous communication with the elderly in light of the current circumstances related to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, while protecting them from the risks of infection by adhering to precautionary measures and social distancing practices.

A number of awareness and educational programmes were broadcast on Ehsan’s social media platforms throughout January and continuing in February.

Zainab al-Kuwari, head of the Preparation and Design Division at Ehsan’s Awareness and Community Outreach Department, explained that the campaign offers a diverse itinerary, including religious programmes with Sheikh Ahmed al-Buainain, who spoke on the “Importance of generosity in Islam”, and the “Impact of generosity” programme by Khaled Saleh, who talked about the impact of giving on mental health.

The programme also co-operated with Nasra al-Nubi, the first Qatari nurse, and noted teacher Fatima Zainal, to talk about their career path, how they planned for it, and their life after retirement.

Sheikha al-Hareeb, head of Ehsan’s Implementation and Follow-up Department, said that Ehsan clubs are still working remotely, due to the current circumstances.

The “Continuous support” campaign helps to ensure continuity of the distance education process through the allocation of programmes under the name of “Their hobbies”, in which a group of elderly people will show their handmade pieces.

Abdullah Mohamed will offer a series of episodes about the stages of manufacturing wooden boxes, while Fatima Mohamed will showcase a number of handicrafts.

There are three Ehsan day clubs, namely: the Airport Club, Izghawa Club, and the North Club, in addition to a Majlis for elderly men.

The clubs attract 344 female members who participate in different activities four times a week.
