Dignitaries join kids in planting trees at Al Shoura Plaza project site
The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar joined hands with the General Authority for Minors Affairs and a number of children yesterday to plant trees at the Al Shoura Plaza project site, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said in a statement.
This came as part of the ‘Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees’ campaign that aims to plant 1mn trees and is implemented by the committee in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
Saad bin Nahar al-Nuaimi, chairman of the General Authority for Minors Affairs, and a number of the authority’s department managers and officials participated in the planting of trees at the site.
Also present were Ali bin Sultan al-Ghanim, member of the Central Municipal Council – Constituency 6; Ezzat Jadoua, a former football player at Al Sadd Sports Club; and Saadoun bin Hassan al-Ghanim, a resident of the area.
Al-Nuaimi commended the efforts of the Supervisory Committee, noting that its efforts are not limited to implementing beautification and plantation projects but also activating their social role by involving all sections of the society, especially children, in preserving the environment and making them aware of their key role in the development of Qatar.
Mohamed Arqoub al-Khaldi, chairman of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, said: “Involving children of all age groups in planting trees with their own hands is an investment in a future generation, which we aspire to be more aware of the importance of afforestation from the environmental, health and societal aspects, and to understand their practical role in nation-building.”
Ali bin Sultan al-Ghanim said: “I thank the committee and all those involved in this initiative, which plays an important role in beautifying roads and areas, enhancing Qatar’s cultural facade and protecting the environment. The most beautiful part of the initiative is that the planting of trees is done by the kids of Qatar.”
Jadoua noted: “We are honoured and pleased to contribute to the plantation initiative in our beloved Qatar. Tree plantation is necessary from an environmental point of view and also for its role in bringing joy and happiness to children and involving everyone in the progress and prosperity of their homeland.”
Saadoun bin Hassan alGhanim added: “I joined my brethren in this initiative to emphasise the importance of trees being the first building block for a healthy ecosystem and also to accustom our kids and future generations to effectively contribute in building their homeland, Qatar. Planting trees is indeed an inculcation of principles in society as a whole, because everyone who participates in planting a tree shall be rewarded for whoever sits in its shade, and the reward for birds that take shelter on it.”
