QC supplies winter aid to Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Jordan

-

Qatar Charity (QC) has launched the second phase of the Qatar Relief Convoys campaign in Jordan, where it has distributed food and winter aid to Syrian and Palestinian refugees and needy Jordanian families in several governorates.

The second phase of the drive was launched in the presence of the charge d’affaires at the embassy of Qatar in Jordan, Hamad al-Mahmoud, and assistant secretary-general of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), Mohamed Nasser al-Kilani.

The first consignment of aid, which is delivered in Jordan within the framework of the campaign, aims to meet the needs of more than 1,758 refugee and Jordanian families, with approximately 9,000 individuals. The aid is distributed via coupons for food packages, health supplies, blankets and fuel, QC has said in a statement.

The Qatar Relief Convoys drive comes from Qatar Charity as part of its ‘Warmth and Peace’ campaign that aims to meet the needs of 200,000 beneficiaries in Jordan over the course of the three-month campaign to address the humanitarian conditions resulting from the coronavirus crisis.

On this occasion, Qatar’s ambassador to Jordan Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani thanked Qatar Charity, emphasising that Qatar seeks to strengthen humanitarian cooperation with various bodies. He also praised the efforts of the Jordanian government and JHCO for facilitating the work of Qatar Charity in Jordan.

Al-Kilani said they are continuing to implement projects for Jordanian families, as well as for Syrian and Palestinian refugees, with the support of QC, noting the positive impact of this aid on the lives of the beneficiaries. The aid delivered by Qatar Relief Convoys reflects the “bright philanthropic image of the people in Qatar and their love to do good, give, and support those in need, especially in light of the continuing cold winter when refugees are struggling to survive”.

The blankets distributed as part of the drive were produced by the refugees, who received income-generating projects from Qatar Charity in Jordan. This encourages them to earn a living and uplift their standards of living.

The drive, which includes 200 convoys, targets Syrian refugees in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon, in addition to internally displaced persons within Syria, until March 10. It aims to deliver aid worth QR20mn to 120,000 refugees and displaced persons.

QC has urged benefactors in Qatar to extend support to Qatar Relief Convoys to maximise the number of beneficiary refugees, keeping them warm and meeting their essential needs. Donations can be made through Qatar Charity’s collection points, branches, website and app, in addition to dialling 44667711 or requesting for a ‘home collector’ across the country.
