Amir congratulates Kenya, Somali presidents as Qatar hails restoration of diplomatic ties
Qatar welcomed the announcement of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Republic of Kenya regarding the resumption of full diplomatic relations between them, and expressed its hope that this step would bring good and prosperity to the peoples of the two friendly countries.
In a tweet, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani said: “I congratulate both His Excellency President Farmaajo and His Excellency President Kenyatta for their wise and courageous decision to restore diplomatic relations between Somalia and Kenya. Our sincere wishes to the two neighbouring countries and their peoples for security and stability. I also confirm that the State of Qatar will always be striving in the way of benevolence and a maker of peace”.
In a similar statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Qatar will spare no effort in achieving peace and stability and building bridges through mediation, activating diplomatic channels and converging views, which will enhance international peace and stability.
Later in the evening, the Amir held a telephone conversation with both the Kenyan and Somali presidents.
During the call, the Kenyan president expressed his sincere thanks to the Amir for Qatar’s efforts and endeavours to heal the rift between Kenya and Somalia, which resulted in the restoration of diplomatic ties.
For his part, the Amir expressed his congratulations to Kenyan president for this wise decision.
The Amir also held a telephone conversation with Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, who expressed his sincere thanks to the Amir for Qatar’s endeavours, which resulted in the restoration of diplomatic relations.
