Campaign to remove abandoned vehicles begins in Al Shamal
7,484 abandoned vehicles removed since start of 2021
Ajoint campaign has been launched at Al Shamal Municipality yesterday morning to remove abandoned vehicles, in accordance with Law No 18 of 2017 on Public Hygiene.
The campaign is being implemented by the committee to remove abandoned vehicles, the mechanical equipment department and the general cleanliness department in co-operation with Al Shamal Municipality, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has said in a statement.
This initiative is part of the second phase of the campaign to remove abandoned vehicles, as stipulated in the MME’s work plan in this regard for 2021.
Hamad Sultan al-Shahwani, head of the general control section at Doha Municipality and a member of the committee, took part in the launch of the campaign alongside Hassan al-Nuaimi, head of the health control section at Al Shamal Municipality, a number of Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) personnel, and officials and representatives from the participating entities.
Al-Shahwani said that the committee’s campaign in Al Shamal Municipality will continue for two weeks.
A total of 7,484 abandoned vehicles have already been removed from different municipalities in the country since the launch of the first phase of the campaign at the start of this year.
After Al Shamal, the committee will carry out a similar campaign in Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality, before proceeding to other municipalities based on the timetable.
On his part, al-Nauimi said that so far 140 abandoned vehicles have been spotted in different areas of Al Shamal Municipality, and these will be removed soon in co-operation with the committee and other entities concerned.
The officials called on the public and garage owners to co-operate with the authorities concerned to carry out the work in order to preserve the aesthetic appearance of the country.
They also urged owners to remove abandoned vehicles in order to avoid legal accountability through the implementation of Law No 18 of 2017 on Public Hygiene.
