Ooredoo has announced that it is bringing Wi-Fi 6 to all consumer homes in partnership with Netgear, the leading provider of mesh wholehome Wi-Fi systems.

Ooredoo is the first operator in the world to make available the latest generation of Wi-Fi 6 technology by including it with 1Gbps and 10Gbps Ooredoo ONE plans. Key benefits of Wi-Fi 6 include higher data speeds, increased capacity, lower latency, better performance and lower power consumption in homes with many connected devices, the company has said in a statement.

Wi-Fi 6 provides the foundation for meeting the needs of emerging customer trends, including streaming 8K ultra high-definition movies, applications, such as gaming that require high bandwidth and low latency, smart home deployments and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Wi-Fi 6 devices will provide households the required bandwidth to address the increasing demands of today’s homes, such as streaming ultra-high definition (UHD) video and using streaming services, such as Shahid VIP, Starz Play and the OSN streaming app, together with online gaming, online exercise classes and live video meetings.

The new Ooredoo Wi-Fi 6 devices provide the capability to support upward of 40 devices simultaneously without interruption, while providing great home coverage, the statement noted.

Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad bin Nasser al-Thani, chief commercial officer at Ooredoo, said: “We are excited to offer the Wi-Fi 6 Orbi 750 as a standard device with our 1Gbps and 10Gbps Ooredoo ONE plans. We’re committed to offering complete customer satisfaction as part of our core strategy, and the addition of the innovative WiFi 6 technology will improve our offering by making our broadband even faster and more reliable for a wide range of customers.”

“Netgear is pleased to bring our award-winning Orbi WiFi 6 Tri-band mesh system to all Ooredoo customers in the Qatar region. Ooredoo is the world’s first service provider to launch our Tri-band Wi-Fi 6 mesh to their subscribers.

“The upgraded Wi-Fi provides households with the bandwidth to address their network needs of maintaining multiple 4K/8K UHD video streams and online gaming along with a multitude of connected devices,” said David Henry, senior vice-president of Connected Home Products for Netgear.

New subscriptions to 1Gbps and 10Gbps Ooredoo ONE plans now come with the Wi-Fi 6 device Orbi 750 and “there has never been a better time to sign up”, the statement added. New customers can take advantage of an inclusive Wi-Fi device together with complimentary installation, while customers wishing to take two WiFi 6 devices get a discount of QR840 on the pair.
