Drive to pull abandoned vehicles begins in Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipali­ty

Ajoint campaign was launched in Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipali­ty yesterday morning to remove abandoned vehicles

in line with Law No 18 of 2017 on Public Hygiene.

The campaign is being carried out by the committee to remove abandoned vehicles, the mechanical equipment department and the general cleanlines­s department in co-operation with Al Shamal Municipali­ty, the Ministry of Municipali­ty and Environmen­t has said in a statement.

Hamad Sultan al-Shahwani, head of the general control section at Doha Municipali­ty and a member of the committee, took part in the launch of the campaign along with Ali Abdulla al-Muraikhi, head of the health control section at Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipali­ty, a number of Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) personnel, and officials and representa­tives from the participat­ing entities.

Al-Shahwani said the campaign will continue for two weeks and abandoned vehicles across the municipali­ty will be targeted until all such vehicles detected are removed.

The official informed that the campaign started after the conclusion of a similar initiative in Al Shamal Municipali­ty, where 36 abandoned vehicles and equipment were removed. These were in addition to a large number of such vehicles being removed by their owners. He added that the campaign would be implemente­d in Al Daayen Municipali­ty after Al Khor and Al Thakhira.

Al-Muraikhi said the campaign at Al Khor and Al Thakhira has spotted 240 abandoned vehicles in different parts of the municipali­ty, which will be removed in coordinati­on with the committee.

He urged people to co-operate with the authoritie­s concerned and avoid such unacceptab­le practices by letting their vehicles be parked and neglected for long periods.
