● The workshop being held with the participation of a number of experts from various member states of Interpol, will address topics related to the use of modern technologies to achieve security in major sporting events
Organised by the Safety and Security Operations Committee (SSOC) of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, in co-operation with Project Stadia of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol), the third cybersecurity expert workshop (Stadia) began yesterday at the Civil Defence Officers Club, and will continue for three days.
The workshop, which is held in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the participation of a number of experts from various member states of Interpol, will address topics related to the use of modern technologies to achieve security in major sporting events and the exchange of experiences including crowd management system, security and safety systems for FIFA tournaments, as well as video analysis systems, antidrone technologies, and many cybersecurity-related issues.
Project Stadia’s Senior Manager of Interpol Falah Abdulla al-Dosari explained that the workshop aims to achieve the best security practices in preparation for Qatar’s organising of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, pointing out that the workshop comes as part of the efforts made by Interpol’s Stadia project, after the lifting of precautionary measures due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
He noted that Project Stadia is a Qatari project that was established in 2012 in co-operation with Interpol, with the aim of assisting Interpol member states to develop and implement police and security measures in preparation for major sporting events, adding that the project contributes to identifying the necessary security arrangements during the FIFA World Cup that will be hosted by Qatar in 2022.
He affirmed that Qatar is one of the developed countries that has made great strides in the fields of security technology, which is why holding such workshops will give Qatari expertise the opportunity to support countries that seek to host major events.
Head of the Technical Affairs Unit at the Safety and Security Operations Committee (SSOC) of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Lt Col Jassim al-Sayed, said the workshop seeks for the exchange of experiences and coordination among international partners and experts in the field of technical security.
