World Standards Day observed in Qatar
Qatar, represented by Qatar General Organisation for Standards and Metrology, participated with all member states of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in the celebration of the World Standards Day, which falls on Oct 14 every year. The annual message of the main international organisations for standardisation, issued on the occasion of the celebration of the World Standards Day, indicated that the ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at addressing social imbalances, developing a sustainable economy, and slowing the rate of climate change, require the co-operation of many public and private partners, and the use of all available tools, including international standards and conformity assessment.
At the conclusion of their annual message and in the context of the challenges imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the main international organisations for standardisation pointed to the absolute necessity of addressing the SDGs in an inclusive way, to strengthen societies, making them more resilient and more equitable. They emphasised the necessity of joining them to highlight the importance of SDGs to rebuild in an appropriate manner, calling for uniting together in order to accelerate the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development by setting specification for these goals. World Standards Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to the tireless efforts of thousands of experts around the world to develop voluntary technical agreements that are published as international standards.
