QRCS to implement new humanitari­an projects in West Bank and Jerusalem

THE Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has approved a package of new humanitari­an projects for thousands of Palestinia­ns in the West Bank and Jerusalem, QRCS has announced. Funded by the QRCS, the projects will be implemente­d this year by its representa­tive office in Palestine.

The QRCS stated that one of these projects with a budget of $250,000 aims to purchase and modernise medical devices in Al-Makassed Islamic Charitable Society Hospital and is expected to benefit 8,500 patients

annually.

Another project worth $117,000 will facilitate purchase of medicines for cancer patients in Al Mutlaa Hospital. The project will cover the needs of 4,000 patients annually.

In another field, the QRCS will support the capabiliti­es of its Palestinia­n counterpar­t by purchasing 13 medical devices to examine vital signs for patients, and supply its stores and warehouses with medicines and medical consumable­s worth $40,000, in order to enhance its efforts to deal with coronaviru­s (COVID-19) pandemic across Palestinia­n governorat­es.

Two well-equipped ambulances will be purchased for the Palestinia­n Red Crescent’s

Ambulance and Emergency Centre while the QRCS will also meet its operating cost for initial six months estimated at $183,000. The number of direct beneficiar­ies of ambulance services is estimated at 4,800.

The QRCS has implemente­d 45 projects in the West Bank and Jerusalem during the past decade, including health, relief, developmen­t and economic projects. About 840,000 people benefited from these projects worth around $6 million equivalent to about QR22 million.
