Athletes suffered in training because of coronaviru­s spread, says Samba

QATAR’S champion sportstar Abderrahma­n Samba has confirmed that all athletes have suffered from great difficulty conducting their training since the spread of the novel coronaviru­s and the pandemic (COVID-19) all over the world.

Samba added in a press statement on Monday, to the “Live with Al Adaam” programme through the account of the Qatar Olympic Committee on Instagram that with the gradual lifting of restrictio­ns, he has begun to return to the exercises almost naturally in preparatio­n for upcoming championsh­ips.

On the postponeme­nt of the

Tokyo Olympics, Samba said the postponeme­nt of the Games to 2021 has been good for him because of his recent injury.

Samba said that he would not forget the moment when he received direct congratula­tions from HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee at the Khalifa Internatio­nal Stadium after he won the bronze medal in 400 meters hurdles at the 2019 World Athletics Championsh­ips Doha.

About Qatar’s Olympic and World high jump champion Mutaz Essa Barshim, Samba said that Barshim always gives us hope, patience and shows profession­alism thanks to his great aspiration­s. “I’ve learned a lot from him.”
