Qatar sees lowest daily COVID-19 infections in over two months

Active COVID-19 cases plunge below 10,000-mark Daily recoveries three times than that of infections

ACTIVE coronavirus (COVID-19) cases plunged below 10,000mark as Qatar on Saturday recorded lowest daily infections in over two months.

“Thanks to our health workers’ incredible efforts and the public’s commitment to following the advised precautionary measures, Qatar’s active COVID-19 cases have fallen below 10,000,” the Government Communications Office (GCO) said in a tweet.

Qatar on Saturday reported 530 new COVID-19 cases, lowest since April 22, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said in its daily report.

The number of active cases dropped below 10,000 on Friday, when it had 9,949 such cases. This further plunged to 8,673 active cases on Saturday.

The number of people recovering from the virus was over three times than that of the daily positive cases.

The MoPH said 1,804 people recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries in Qatar to 90,387.

Sadly, two people — aged 69 and 82 – succumbed to the virus on Saturday.

The ministry offered condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased.

All the new cases have been put in isolation and are receiving necessary healthcare according to their health status.

The MoPH said measures taken to tackle COVID-19 have succeeded in flattening the curve and limiting the spread of the virus.

The number of new daily cases and hospital admissions has gradually declined over the past few weeks, it added.

“We are seeing a rise in the number of deaths in recent weeks and this is due to the people who were infected at the height of the virus several weeks ago. There has been an increase in cases among families,” the MoPH said.

“This is of great concern as this population group includes the highest percentage of the elderly and people with chronic conditions. Now more than ever, we must be careful and protect the most vulnerable,” it added.

The MoPH further said, “While the restrictions of COVID-19 are gradually being lifted in Qatar, it is important for everyone to play their role in controlling the virus by following precautionary measures such as physical distancing, wearing a face mask and washing hands regularly.”
