Silatech, DI launch programme to empower youth amid coronaviru­s

Over 3,000 youths from different Arab countries, aged 18 to 15 years, have already registered for the programme

SILATECH has launched the ‘ orsa’ programme, in cooperatio­n with the Excellence Center for Training and Consulting at Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI), as part of Silatech’s efforts to socially empower youth. The programme will run from July 4 to August 17, 2020.

This first edition of the programme targets youth in the Middle East and North Africa region. It aims at developing their capabiliti­es and leadership skills in order to empower them both socially and economical­ly and enhance their roles within society.

Over 3,000 youth from different Arab countries, aged between 18 to 15 years, have already registered for the programme. The trainees will attend six training courses, including outh Empowering Strategies, Technology and

and Entreprene­urship after the Pandemic.

Leading experts from various internatio­nal organisati­ons and entities, including UNICE , the ILO, Al Sharq

outh orum, Cisco, Qatar Science Technology Park (QSTP), Ministry of Administra­tive Developmen­t, Labour and Social Affairs in Qatar, and independen­t experts will present the courses.

The programme comes at a time when millions of youth around the globe are suffering from the devastatin­g consequenc­es of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Internatio­nal Labour Organizati­on (ILO), over one in six youth remain out of work since the onset of this global, public health and economic crisis.

Executive Director of Programmes at Silatech aisal Al Emadi said, “The coronaviru­s pandemic has had devastatin­g economic repercussi­ons as millions of young people have lost their jobs, and therefore, it is important to upskill the youth. The orsa programme is an important opportunit­y for them to develop their abilities and gain new skills that qualify them for the competitiv­e job market”.

Dr Hend Al Muftah, vicepresid­ent of Administra­tion and inance at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, stressed that the cooperatio­n with Silatech is purposely establishe­d for youth empowermen­t.

“The six training courses within the programme aim at imparting an integrated system of skills and expertise in various fields to the participan­ts to address the issue of unemployme­nt and also encourage entreprene­urship among the youth,” Muftah added.

Dr arid El Sahn, director of the Executive Education Excellence Center at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, said the courses focus on developing the participan­ts’ leadership and communicat­ion skills.

Noora Al Thani, programme officer at Silatech, said “The social empowermen­t of youth is one of the main axes of Silatech’s strategy. We cherish this partnershi­p with the Excellence Center for Training and Consulting and Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. We also commend the other partners for their invaluable participat­ion in the programme.”

The ‘ orsa’ programme is a result of the new partnershi­p between Silatech and the Excellence Center for Training and Consulting at Doha Institute for Graduate Studies during these challengin­g times when millions of youth, especially young women, suffer as a result of deteriorat­ing economic conditions since the onset of COVID-19.
