Campaign to remove abandoned cars in Industrial Area launched
THE Joint Committee for Removing Abandoned Vehicles in the country on Thursday launched a comprehensive joint campaign to remove abandoned cars and equipment in Industrial Area in cooperation with the Public Cleanliness and Mechanical Equipment departments, Doha Municipality, and the security authorities.
The campaign is within the framework of the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) to limit the number of abandoned cars and equipment that distort the aesthetic view of the state. The campaign is also an implementation of Law No (18) of 2017 on public hygiene.
Assistant Director of the Department of Public Cleanness Muhammad Faraj Al Kubaisi said this campaign will continue until the removal of all abandoned cars from Industrial Area.
A total of 17,000 vehicles, including 12,000 cars in Industrial Area, were removed during 2019, of which 5,000 were disposed.
He said the disposal of abandoned vehicles will be through private companies in a safe and sound manner and according to approved standards.
He called on the owners of the cars and garages in the Industrial Area to cooperate with the authorities and remove their cars from the area.
The campaign will continue in cooperation with the concerned authorities until the completion of the removal of all cars that distort the general view.
Assistant Director of the Mechanical Equipment Department and member of the joint committee Marzouq Mubarak Al Masifari said the campaign was started to remove the largest number of the abandoned cars in the Industrial Area due to its importance.
He said the committee has intensified its efforts during the past period through the continuous campaigns in all parts of the country. More than 4,000 abandoned cars have been removed since the beginning of this year.
The number of cars that will be removed from the Industrial Area during this campaign is to reach approximately 10,000.
As many as 50 to 70 cars per day will be removed.
THE removed vehicles are being transported to the abandoned vehicles collection unit at detention spots in Al Meshaf, Mesaimeer, and Umm Salal. The legal procedures are then applied by granting a period of six months, he added.
Afterward, the cars are disposed of through public auction hosted by the ministry, or through local companies that directly dispose them of by cutting them and using their components. Lieutenant Yousef Fahd Al Ali of the General Directorate of Traffic said the involvement of traffic department comes within the framework of its major role in removing abandoned cars during the campaign and supporting other authorities in monitoring abandoned cars and transporting them to the designated places.
He said the General Directorate of Traffic strikes out abandoned cars from the registration system after the sixmonth deadline. The patrols also organise traffic during the removal process.
