Third traditional handicrafts exhibition kicks off at Katara
The third exhibition of traditional handicrafts kicked off at Katara on Wednesday with the participation of Arab and foreign countries, in addition to the host State of Qatar. A group of artisans will participate in the exhibition which will last for ten days.
THE third exhibition for traditional handicrafts opened at the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) on Wednesday with the participation of Arab and foreign countries.
The opening was attended by a number of ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions in the country, as well as handicrafts lovers.
A group of professional craftsmen from Palestine, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan, Iran, Ethiopia and Syria will participate in the exhibition, which is being held in Building 48
The exhibition will last for ten days. The exhibition will be open daily from 9am to 12pm and from 4pm to 10pm. The booths of the participating countries will open in the evening from 4pm to 10pm.
The handicrafts exhibition, which is being held for the third year in a row, highlights the products of craftsmen who have excelled in traditional professions and handicrafts such as gypsum, built-in boxes, folk costumes, dolls, ships, chimneys, among others.
Katara Director-General Dr Khaled bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti expressed happiness at the inauguration of this exhibition in Katara, stressing the Foundation’s role in supporting craftsmen and encouraging them to continue practising their traditional crafts and selling their products.
He said the exhibition contributes to highlighting the civilisational and cultural aspect of the Qatari heritage.
“Katara has provided all kinds of material and moral support for these craftsmen to practise their handicrafts on a permanent basis, in order to preserve the popular heritage and its originality. The exhibition contributes to creating opportunities for acquaintance and exchange of experiences between the folk craftsman and the artist. Interested in heritage and its development,” Sulaiti said.
