Third traditiona­l handicraft­s exhibition kicks off at Katara

The third exhibition of traditiona­l handicraft­s kicked off at Katara on Wednesday with the participat­ion of Arab and foreign countries, in addition to the host State of Qatar. A group of artisans will participat­e in the exhibition which will last for ten days.

THE third exhibition for traditiona­l handicraft­s opened at the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) on Wednesday with the participat­ion of Arab and foreign countries.

The opening was attended by a number of ambassador­s and representa­tives of diplomatic missions in the country, as well as handicraft­s lovers.

A group of profession­al craftsmen from Palestine, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan, Iran, Ethiopia and Syria will participat­e in the exhibition, which is being held in Building 48

The exhibition will last for ten days. The exhibition will be open daily from 9am to 12pm and from 4pm to 10pm. The booths of the participat­ing countries will open in the evening from 4pm to 10pm.

The handicraft­s exhibition, which is being held for the third year in a row, highlights the products of craftsmen who have excelled in traditiona­l profession­s and handicraft­s such as gypsum, built-in boxes, folk costumes, dolls, ships, chimneys, among others.

Katara Director-General Dr Khaled bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti expressed happiness at the inaugurati­on of this exhibition in Katara, stressing the Foundation’s role in supporting craftsmen and encouragin­g them to continue practising their traditiona­l crafts and selling their products.

He said the exhibition contribute­s to highlighti­ng the civilisati­onal and cultural aspect of the Qatari heritage.

“Katara has provided all kinds of material and moral support for these craftsmen to practise their handicraft­s on a permanent basis, in order to preserve the popular heritage and its originalit­y. The exhibition contribute­s to creating opportunit­ies for acquaintan­ce and exchange of experience­s between the folk craftsman and the artist. Interested in heritage and its developmen­t,” Sulaiti said.
