Qatar marks Arab Environment Day
QATAR participated in events on Wednesday to observe the Arab Environment Day, which was adopted by the League of Arab States on the occasion of the First Conference for Arab Environment Ministers and Officials in Tunisia in 1986, to focus attention on the fact that every Arab person belongs to one environment.
In his speech at the event held virtually, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) Engineer Hassan Bojumhour Al Mohannadi said the participation of Qatar comes within the framework of its keenness to contribute to supporting joint Arab action in the environmental field. The Arab Environment Day is themed this year as ‘Electronic and electrical waste-reality and solutions’.
Engineer Al Mohannadi said Qatar is fully aware of the importance of this year’s slogan on electronic waste, which is a major environmental hazard that calls for enhanced cooperation at Arab and global levels.
He also stressed the importance of developing concrete and effective solutions to address the challenges that may arise from e-waste, in a manner that leads to reducing the negative effects of this type of waste.
He expressed his aspiration to turn this challenge into an opportunity for Arab and global cooperation to draw a roadmap and establish a clear approach and framework, to achieve the sound and effective management of electronic waste.
Engineer Hassan Al Mohannadi praised the existing cooperation between the MME and the private sector with regard to electronic waste, including a series of consultative meetings with companies working in the field of electronic and medical waste.
He concluded by pointing to the importance of community awareness of the issue of e-waste.
