Iranian envoy’s wife describes her stay in Qatar as ‘a memorable one’

DR Zahre Sobohi, wife of the outgoing Ambassador of Iran to Qatar HE Mohammad Ali Sobohi, has praised the generosity and hospitalit­y of the people of Qatar. In an exclusive interview with Qatar Tribune, Dr Sobohi also lauded the Qatari Government for providing all possible facilities, livelihood and comfort for both the citizens and expatriate­s in Qatar.

Describing her stay in Qatar as “one of the most enjoyable, beautiful and memorable times” among the countries of her husband’s postings as an envoy of Iran, Dr Sobohi expressed her appreciati­on of the socio-cultural activities being carried out by Qatar-based SOHOM Group (Spouses of Heads of Missions). She took part actively in SOHOM’s health-oriented, learning and other noble activities.

She especially lauded Qatari Business Women’s Associatio­n (QBWA) and their efforts towards empowermen­t of women and enhancing women’s participat­ion in the social field. She thanked the associatio­n for giving her an opportunit­y in 2018 to speak on the topic ‘Country Footprint’ and inviting her to its events, including exhibition­s and Qatari fashion shows.

Furthermor­e, she praised the Cultural Village Foundation ‘Katara’ for showcasing diverse cultures of countries through artworks and facilitati­ng dialogue among them in order to create a better understand­ing and bring social harmony.

Dr Sobohi said she also attended yoga classes organised by Qatar Women Sport Committee during her stay. She said she won the top position in a contest of short films organised by QBWA on Instagram. “Overall, my stay in Qatar has been interestin­g, fruitful and valuable in terms of experience­s gained and memorable, which I would cherish all my life,” she remarked.

She also praised Qatar for the resilience shown by the country during the ongoing unjust blockade imposed by some of its neighbouri­ng countries and turning the challenge into an opportunit­y by achieving self-sufficienc­y in food products.

She said she herself visited some of the farms, adding that in tackling the crisis, Qatar has set a model for other countries to emulate. “We witness today abundance of local products in Qatar,” she pointed out.

She also expressed her appreciati­on for the sports facilities for different segments of society, including women, as well as the state-of-the-art stadiums for hosting FIFA 2022 World Cup matches.

Dr Zohre Sobohi is well versed in Arabic language and has a doctorate in Jurisprude­nce and Islamic law from Iran.
