Ministry launches National Scientific Research contest virtual exhibition

THE Ministry of Education and Higher Education on Wednesday launched the virtual exhibition of the annual National Scientific Research Competitio­n, in cooperatio­n with Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF).

The award announced the winners for the high school, elementary and junior high categories. It also announced the winners of Katara’s Olympiad in Astronomy.

Assistant Undersecre­tary for Educationa­l Affairs at the ministry Fawzia Abdulaziz Al Khater said the award celebrates researcher­s and innovators by encouragin­g them to pursue their topics of interest.

She added that the competitio­n also encourages cooperatio­n and competitio­n, in addition to showcasing the projects undertaken by students to solve the world’s problems.

She noted that the extraordin­ary conditions imposed by the coronaviru­s prevent them from holding the award could as in the years past, adding that the ministry remained committed to holding the event nonetheles­s.

Executive Director of QNRF Dr Abdul Sattar Al Taie said that, in line with the vision and mission of the QNRF to build national capabiliti­es in scientific research at all stages, the fund, in cooperatio­n with the ministry, has encouraged students at all levels to employ the knowledge and skills they learn in scientific research methodolog­ies. Director of Informatio­n Technology Tareq Al Emadi congratula­ted all the winners of the competitio­n and thanked all those in charge of the virtual exhibition for their efforts.

Director of Capacity Building at QNRF Dr Aisha Al Obaidly said the launch of the High School Research Experience Program (HSREP) is a qualitativ­e addition to training students for research outside the school framework, specifical­ly in universiti­es under the supervisio­n of academic advisors from universiti­es and research centres.
