World GBC presents film featuring QGBC, Qatar’s green hospitality initiatives
QATAR Green Building Council ( QGBC) has partnered with World GBC on a film as part of World GBC’s Building a Better Future’ series produced by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions, the commercial content division of BBC Global News.
The series will explore the profound effect buildings have on the quality of people’s lives and the role the green buildings movement can play in tackling the climate emergency. It will shine a light on the interesting examples of best practice from across the sector to increase awareness and understanding, driving change in the ways in which we design, build and operate buildings.
QGBC, a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), has taken part in Building A Better Future’ on account of its innovative and impactful example of how organisations are successfully turning rhetoric into action when it comes to healthy buildings and creating change at scale.
The film, launched on November 18, highlights Qatar’s green hospitality initiatives leading up to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. It features the role of QGBC in the rapid transformation of Qatar’s hospitality sector in preparation for the world cup. It highlights the sustainable practices of Green Key certified hotels in the country, Qatar’s green communities and structures, including QF’s Education City and stadiums, and the accomplishments of QGBC’s programmes in advancing the country’s sustainability agenda.
Meshal Al Shamari, director of QGBC, said: World GBC is an important partner and supporter of QGBC in promoting the green building movement in the country. Working with them and the film producers in this creative project has been an honour. The need to incorporate people’s wellbeing and environmental impact in designing a building is now imperative if we want to see a sustainable future. I hope this film’s message resonates among viewers and drives the demand for greener alternatives.
The Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and Convention Hotel, W Doha and Residences, and the Mandarin Oriental Doha are the three featured hotels in the film. They highlight the Green Key policies, strategies, and best practices which are embedded in their day to day operations.
QGBC is leading by example in establishing implantable and scalable sustainability best practices both locally and globally. QGBC sets an example for the hospitality industry in Qatar on how hotels can establish and maintain luxurious and elegant standards that can support the state towards its sustainability journey
