- CATHERINE W GICHUKI

COLOURFUL collections of winter season abayas are the center of attraction at the 17th Edition of Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition, which kicked off at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center on Friday.

The collections at the expo are especially highlighted by elvet abayas with pastel colours.

The Al Motahajiba pavilion, one of the exhibitors at the event, displayed beautiful abayas and jalabiyas, including those for special occasions, evenings, weddings and classic meets.

Amal, brand manager of Al Motahajiba, said: We are targeting the young people with our collection and that’s why we concentrate on fanciful colours. This is our winter collection and that’s why we have some abayas on velvet silks and other fabrics for winter.

The collection featured more of the pastel colours such as green, olive, blue, black and white, off white.

We decided to bring the colours that young people like, said Amal, adding that they have also changed the logo of the company and rebranded it to appeal more to target generation.

This year, Al Motahajiba has collaborated with renowned vlogger Haneen Alsaify to design some the Abayas on display and put her touch on their outlook.

According to Amal, this was not the first time that Al Motahajib is taking part in Heya though the approach is different this year because of the CO ID-19 pandemic, stressing that the CO ID-19 precautionary measures were in place and they adhered to them.

She said that the people coming to the exhibition are also following the precautionary measures to the latter.

They are wearing face masks and they are not allowed to take food, including chocolates and drinks, into the exhibition hall, she said.

She said that despite the CO - ID-19 situation, they are upbeat to make good sales this year as in the previous editions.

We hope customers will come, she said.

According to her, the prices for their collections have been reduced because they feel that this is a difficult season for people.

We have classic dresses that cost as low as QR900, occasion wears from QR1,200, evening at QR1,400, while the wedding ones start from QR1,850 because the wedding ones have more crystals. We also sanitise our products before selling them, she said.

She added that, as part of the precautionary measures they also do home deliveries.

Gaya Line, another exhibitor, showcased abayas and attires depicting Qatari national colours whose prices ranged QR900 to QR1,600

This is the first time we are participating in Heya and we hope that our sales will be high, said the exhibitor.

LN Abayas, another pavilion showcasing fall/winter collection.

Our collection is mostly for teenagers although the collection can be worn by adults as well. We chose darker colours because it’s winter, said the exhibitor.
