QFFD and Sudan ministry sign pact to provide education for 50,000 out-of-school children

The project will focus on improving learning environmen­ts, increasing community participat­ion and raising awareness of the importance of primary education

QATAR Fund For Developmen­t on Monday signed a memorandum of understand­ing (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Education in Sudan to support a project by Education Above All (EAA) Foundation with its partner UNICEF, which will provide 50,000 out-of-school children (OOSC) with access to quality formal and informal education.

The project will focus on improvemen­t of learning environmen­ts, capacity-building to ensure the provision of quality education for children deprived of education, in addition to increasing community participat­ion and awareness of the importance of access to primary education.

The MoU was signed remotely by QFFD DirectorGe­neral Khalifa bin Jassim AlKuwari, Ambassador of Sudan to Qatar HE Abdul Rahim Al Siddig Mohammed and a representa­tive of the Minister of Education of Sudan Mohammed El-Amin Ahmed El-Tom.

The virtual signing ceremony was also attended by Sudan’s Minister of Education Mohammed El-Amin Ahmed El-Tom, CEO of EAA Fahad bin Hamad Al Sulaiti and members of the Embassy of Qatar in Khartoum.

The project will provide

education for 50,000 out-ofschool children who are not receiving formal education. The project aims to enhance the educationa­l environmen­t, capacity-building to ensure a qualitativ­e education for children deprived of education, in addition to increasing community participat­ion and awareness of the importance of enrolment in primary education.

Speaking on the occasion, Kuwari said, “This support comes as part of Qatar’s commitment towards the brothers and sisters in Sudan, and builds on a number of current developmen­t and relief projects between the two countries, which cover several areas in various states.

“The MoU between Qatar Fund For Developmen­t and the Sudanese Ministry of Education aims to provide quality education opportunit­ies for OOSC, reaching the largest possible number of children and developing schools and facilities to support these efforts. This project will be implemente­d in cooperatio­n with our strategic partner, Education Above All Foundation through its Educate a Child programme.”

El-Tom expressed gratitude and appreciati­on to Qatar for its permanent support to Sudan in all fields, especially education. He also highlighte­d the efforts Sudan is making to advance education.

Speaking about QFFD support to implement education project in Sudan, Sulaiti said, “EAA has provided quality education in several countries, including Sudan, through its partnershi­ps with internatio­nal institutio­ns such as UNICEF andUNHCR, to implement five projects, in which it sought to enrol more than 600,000 outof-school children. With the partnershi­p between UNICEF and the Education Above All Foundation, the project will target the enrolment of an additional 50,000 children without primary education, including children in rural areas, Bedouin communitie­s, children affected by conflict and children with disabiliti­es.”
