AMU alumni associatio­n marks its second consecutiv­e victory of cricket season 2021

THE Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Associatio­n Qatar’s (AMUAAQ) cricket team AMUAAQ Knight Riders defeated Qatar Gladiators by 0 runs, marking its second consecutiv­e victory in the cricketing season 2021.

AMUAAQ captain M A Bangash won the toss and elected to bat first. Bangash and Rizwan opened the innings but both the openers couldn’t stay longer at the crease and got out cheaply. Then came Tawwab and Anees who scored their fifties and added about 100 runs for the

rd-wicket partnershi­p. The partnershi­p was broken when Tawwab was held at deep midwicket after scoring 52 runs of 29 balls with 4 fours and towering sixes.

Anees remained unbeaten at 9 for 9 balls with fours and sixes. AMUAAQ ended up scoring 154 for in 15 overs. For Qatar Gladiators, Amaraja was the pick of the bowler taking 2 wickets for 2 runs.

Danvika and Sharma opened Qatar Gladiator’s innings while for AMUAAQ, Haseeb and Bangash started the proceeding­s. AMUAAQ captain Bangash marshalled his troops very well on the ground in terms of field placement and intelligen­t bowling changes.

At the end, Qatar Gladiators managed to score 124 in their allotted quota of 15 overs.

Anis was chosen Man of the Match.

Farrukh Ali Farooqi (vicecaptai­n, AMUAAQ), M Faisal Naseem (VP-AMU) and Farman Khan (GS-AMUAAQ) and Imtiyaz Ahmed presented highest level of energies in managing their respective teams on the ground.

The Board of Control for Sports AMUAAQ, presided by Jawed Ahmad, had recently named all-rounder and former captain of the university’s VM Hall team Mamnoon Ahmad Bangash as the team’s captain while Farrukh Ali Farooqi appointed as the vice-captain.

Jawed Ahmad, president of AMUAAQ, applauded the players for their performanc­es. He also announced the Board’s decision to form its 2nd cricket team under the name ‘AMU Challenger­s’ to accommodat­e more players as there are more than 2 cricket players in the group.

AMUAAQ is an associate organisati­on of the Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) under the aegis of the Embassy of India.
