Al-Darwish Jewellery and QCS launch ‘Ya Shafi’ initiative to support cancer patients

A -DARWISH ewellery, in cooperation with Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) and Kiswah ewellers, launched the a Shafi’ initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer, which is one of the most common types of cancer among women in Qatar and worldwide. The initiative is part of the lossom’ campaign being organised by the charity throughout October.

As part of the initiative, Al-Darwish ewellery will donate the proceeds from the sale of 400 gold and silver bracelets -- which are designed specifically for the initiative and have the phrase

a Shafi’ -- for the treatment of cancer patients.

An awareness event was also organised at the charity’s headquarters, which included an awareness workshop about breast cancer, presenting the story of a woman living with breast cancer within the I am a survivor, and I will inspire you with my story’ programme. The event also provided tips on healthy cooking.

Abeer Abdallah Al-Darwish, CEO of Al Darwish ewellery, said, “Al Darwish ewellery believes that our role is not only to provide a specific good or item to the Qatari market but also to ensure joint ventures with all institutions working in different sectors, especially in the fields of health and social welfare.

“These bracelets, which we chose to carry one of Allah Almighty’s finest characteristics - The Healer ( a Shafi), aims to bond those living with cancer and the public audience. We use 18K gold and gemstones for the making of the bracelet, taking into consideration the high taste of the Qatari market. Anyone who buys or wears these bracelets is supportive of cancer patients,” She added.

Mona Ashkanani, director general of QCS, expressed her gratitude to Al Darwish ewellery for launching the initiative, which supports women living with breast cancer and raises awareness of cancer. The initiative emphasises the importance of community partnerships in spreading the society’s vision to be the community partnership platform for making Qatar a leader in cancer prevention and its burden control, she said.

Heba Nassar, health Education Department at QCS, explained the warning signs and symptoms of breast cancer, the risk factors that increase the possibility of infection, methods for early detection of the disease, and the efforts of the State of Qatar in this regard.

Nassar presented the latest statistics of breast cancer in Qatar. According to Qatar National Cancer Registry (QNCR) 2018, breast cancer is the highest diagnosed cancer among both genders in Qatar, she said.
