ICC organises series of activities to mark India’s 75th Independen­ce Day

THE Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) conceived, planned and executed Vande Bharat’ events for nine days starting with beach cleaning in north Qatar along with ICC outh ing as part of the activities to celebrate India’s 5th Independen­ce Day

Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, and 152nd birth anniversar­y of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

The programmes saw active participat­ion of various teams. The Gandhi Jayanti day saw quiz competitio­n finals, the inaugurati­on of VAFI Gandhiji painting exhibition, cultural show Bharat Darshan’ and a host of other events for the day.

Along with Doha Municipal authoritie­s, ICC and MES senior students participat­ed in a tree plantation drive at Old Airport Park while Samanvayam captivated the audience with

Vande Mataram’ cultural event featuring dances and a skit show.

ICC and team also hosted Malhar Musical night along with food stalls to engage young Indians.

Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ patriotic songs and dance performanc­es by Bangiya Parishad Qatar were part of a well-choreograp­hed event.

The other highlights were Bharat Ke Rang, I A Ke Sang, dance forms, from states of India by Indian oman Associatio­n, which was well directed with excellent costume designs to suit the traditions.

Qatar Tamila Sangam celebrated the Mahakavi Bharatiyar centenary with a skit and songs and dances that were presented with a difference.

Batukamma’ by Telangana Jagruthi, a floral festival celebratio­n with regional folk songs and dances, was well attended, while another all-women event was overwhelmi­ngly successful.

On the last day of the activities, Navaratri Celebratio­n’, mesmerisin­g classical dances and songs by Maestro Arts held the audience spellbound. The Maestro team brought together talents in one event.

After one and a half years of lockdown and COVID-1 restrictio­ns, the ICC, with support from the Embassy of India, decided to create a platform for the Indian community to come out, participat­e and enjoy under protocols and restrictio­ns.

The ICC thanked the Indian community and ICC-affiliated organisati­ons for their wholeheart­ed support for the events.

ICC MC also thanked Ambassador of India to Qatar HE Dr Deepak Mittal and Dr Alpana Mittal for their support, timely advice and inspiratio­n, as well as ICC Coordinati­ng Officer Xavier Dhanraj, first secretary at the Embassy of India, for his coordinati­on and advice.
