Qatar Charity implements $11 mn humanitari­an projects in Sri Lanka

QATAR Charity (QC) has announced the launch of several humanitari­an and developmen­t projects in Sri Lanka to be implemente­d this year. The projects worth $11 million, which will be implemente­d by QC in Sri Lanka, come in accordance with its 2023 plan.

This was announced during a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka M U M Ali Sabry and CEO of Qatar Charity Yusuf bin Ahmed Al Kuwari and his delegation at the Foreign Ministry, in the presence of many officials of the ministry.

During the visit of QC delegation to Sri Lanka, a ceremony was held to resume its activities and inaugurate its new office in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, in the presence of HE Ambassador Jassim bin Jaber Al Sorour, many Sri Lankan government officials and Arab ambassador­s.

During the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Kuwari underscore­d QC’s determinat­ion to provide all possible support to Sri Lanka. He noted QC’s keenness to ensure that its developmen­t interventi­ons, which are expected to be implemente­d by its office in Colombo, will be consistent with the strategic plans of the concerned ministries and authoritie­s in Sri Lanka. He praised the support provided by various Sri Lankan government bodies to QC to facilitate its humanitari­an and developmen­t missions in the country.

On his part, the Sri Lankan foreign minister welcomed Qatar Charity’s pledge to implement the new projects this year, describing this initiative as an important step and an integral part of the historical relations between the two countries.

He also appreciate­d QC’s efforts in the field of humanitari­an and developmen­t work at the local and internatio­nal levels, thanking it for its support for the vulnerable.

He hoped that QC would continue to aid those in need in Sri Lanka in the areas of health, education, food security, economic empowermen­t, housing and social care. In 1993, Qatar Charity commenced its activities in Sri Lanka, where the projects and programmes were implemente­d in coordinati­on with local charitable organisati­ons until its office was opened in Colombo in 2018.
