Family Receives Great Attention In Qatar’s Social Policies: Sheikha Alya

The Permanent Representa­tive of Qatar to the UN confirmed that she will continue her efforts through her presidency of the 61st Session of the United Nations Commission for Social Developmen­t to add more value to the Arab role in sustainabl­e developmen­t efforts at the internatio­nal level

PERMANENT Representa­tive of the State of Qatar to the nited Nations HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani has affirmed that family, as the basic unit of society, receives great attention in the social policies of the State of Qatar at the national, regional and internatio­nal levels, stressing the importance of family oriented social and economic policies due to their significan­t contributi­ons to achieving comprehens­ive, feasible and sustainabl­e social developmen­t.

This came in a recorded speech by Sheikha Alya during the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, held under the title The Rights of Persons with Disabiliti­es and Multidimen­sional Poverty: Further Implementa­tion of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t and Beyond.’

She noted the efforts and initiative­s of the State of Qatar in the field of family, including hosting in 2004 the Doha Internatio­nal Conference on the Family under the patronage of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, which issued the Doha Declaratio­n on the Family.

She added that the permanent delegation of the State of Qatar to the nited Nations in New ork has since assumed the task of facilitati­ng informal consultati­ons regarding the draft resolution to proclaim the Internatio­nal ear of the Family, which is presented annually in the nited Nations eneral Assembly Third Committee on behalf of the roup of 77 and China, referring to the recent resolution in this regard adopted by the nited Nations eneral Assembly last November, according to which the preparatio­ns for the celebratio­n of the 30th anniversar­y of the Internatio­nal ear of the Family were launched.

Sheikha Alya said Qatar is currently working in cooperatio­n with the nited Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs to prepare to host the internatio­nal conference to celebrate the 30th anniversar­y of the Internatio­nal ear of the Family in Doha in 2024, which would contribute to promoting the concept of family according to our Arab and Islamic culture.

In this regard, she expressed her appreciati­on to the Ministry of Social Developmen­t and Family for its efforts in leading the cohesive Arab family project as the guarantee of a strong and sustainabl­e growth society.

In the context of her speech, she appreciate­d the Arab efforts in the field of caring for people with disabiliti­es, referring in this context to the issue of spreading the implementa­tion of the nified Arab Classifica­tion of Disability, which was adopted in Doha last June.

She expressed her keenness for the support of Their Excellenci­es the ministers and their participat­ion in the State of Qatar’s efforts to host the Fourth lobal Disability Summit, which will be held in Doha in 2028 in cooperatio­n with the Internatio­nal Disability Alliance, through which the regional achievemen­ts of the Arab region in this important field can be highlighte­d.

nited Nations Commission for Social Developmen­t CSocD 1 in order to add more value to the Arab role in sustainabl­e developmen­t efforts at the internatio­nal level.
