Qatar’s World Cup Most Accessible Event to Persons with Disabiliti­es in History: US Official

THE nited States’ Special Advisor on Internatio­nal Disability Rights Sara Minkara hailed the initiative­s of the State of Qatar and its experience in empowering persons with disabiliti­es, which were largely demonstrat­ed during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament.

In a recorded remark during the inaugural session of the 42nd meeting of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs that was held Wednesday in Doha, Minkara said that, during her visit to Qatar prior to the launch of the world cup tournament, she was introduced to the enormous efforts undertaken by relevant entities to empower persons with disabiliti­es.

Such tournament was most accessible to persons with disabiliti­es in the history of world cup, she confirmed, pointing out that the S is committed to supporting the social developmen­t in the world through joint cooperatio­n with various countries. The S focuses on promoting the rights of persons with disabiliti­es in the world, integratin­g them and facilitati­ng their access to education, employment and various services, Minkara said.

For her part, Deputy Secretarye­neral of the nited Nations Amina J. Mohammed called on the internatio­nal community to exert greater effort to integrate persons with disabiliti­es into community, pointing out that integratio­n of persons with disabiliti­es is one of the most critical programs the nited Nations is currently working on, within the framework of following-up the 2030 Sustainabl­e Developmen­t agenda.

In a similar recorded remark, the N official said internatio­nal and regional cooperatio­n in the area of protecting is critical to ensure the rights of persons with disabiliti­es, in addition to capitalizi­ng on various approaches and experience­s at the global level.
