Qatari women contribute to national developmen­t: Shura deputy speaker

DEPUTY Speaker of the Shura Council HE Dr Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti has underlined that Qatari women contribute effectivel­y to the developmen­t process in Qatar and assume major roles in the achievemen­t of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the strategies emanating from it.

Speaking during her participat­ion in the 10th Conference of the Muslim Women Parliament­arians, which was held within the framework of the 17th Session of the Parliament­ary Union of the OIC Member States Conference (PUIC) in Algiers, the deputy speaker of the Shura Council emphasised the great attention paid by the wise leadership of Qatar to promote and advance the role of women to become a real partner in the comprehens­ive developmen­t.

She said Qatari women have achieved a prominent presence in various fields and have assumed administra­tive, executive and leadership positions in various sectors.

She highlighte­d HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser’s contributi­on to promoting the role of women in the Qatari society and making them one of the pillars of developmen­t in the country.

Dr Sulaiti affirmed that Qatari women enjoy all their rights, and enjoy the care and attention of the State which has been keen on providing women with educationa­l opportunit­ies from primary stages to postgradua­te levels, whether inside or outside the country.

The Shura deputy speaker also praised the pivotal role of Palestinia­n women in resisting the occupation and their contributi­ons to supporting the Palestinia­n cause, stressing the need to provide support and protection for them in light of the injustice and persecutio­n the Palestinia­n

people have been facing.

The 10th Conference of the Muslim Women Parliament­arians discussed the capabiliti­es of women in solving local and regional problems and conflicts, and ways to protect Muslim women and children in areas of occupation and conflicts, especially in Palestine. (QNA)

On the sidelines of the session, Dr Sulaiti met separately with Speaker of the Jordan Lower House Ahmad Safadi and Deputy Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representa­tives Mohammed Ouzzine.

During the two meetings, they reviewed the existing cooperatio­n between the Shura Council and the Jordanian and Moroccan Houses of Representa­tives and ways to promote them, in addition to a range of topics on the agenda of the session.

The deputy speaker of the Shura Council also met with Secretary General of the Parliament­ary Union of the OIC Member States Muhammad Qureshi Nias and discussed with him the existing cooperatio­n between the Shura Council and the union, and ways to enhance them.

She underscore­d the importance of taking practical and serious stances, and setting a mechanism to respond to the systematic campaigns of the European Parliament that target the OIC member states.

Dr Sulaiti also called firm stance towards the burning of copies of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden, Netherland­s and Denmark with the approval and protection of the official authoritie­s of those countries, under the pretext that such a criminal and outrageous act falls under freedom of expression.

She stressed the importance of paying more attention to the Palestinia­n cause to be considered the highest priorities and as the central issue of the Islamic world.
