Magath blames Bobic for flirting with DFB as Union flirt with Isco

-

FORMER coach Felix Magath says there is “something wrong” at the very core of Hertha Berlin and believes Fredi Bobic’s sacking is partly because he refused to rule out joining the German Football Federation (DFB).

Hertha are in the Bundesliga relegation zone after losing a fifth derby in a row to nion Berlin. The east Berlin club won 2-0 at their western rivals on Saturday, with the Hertha board firing sporting director Bobic soon after.

The former Germany forward had been mooted as a candidate to replace Oliver Bierhoff as the Germany team director but the role went to Rudi V ller.

“I think he already got into trouble after he didn’t clearly signal that Hertha was his job, but irted a bit with the DFB,” veteran coach Magath, who saved Hertha from the drop last season on a short-term deal, told Bild TV on Sunday.

“I already criticized the club after I rescued them by saying that something was wrong in Berlin, I didn’t feel any support in that difficult relegation fight.” A boardroom row between investor Lars indhorst and others has also caused frictions at the club and Bobic was unable to bring in high-profile signings.

“The millions that have come from the investor have upset the whole club,” Magath said.

Hertha club president ay Bernstein says coach Sandro Schwarz does not have to fear for his job after Bobic’s sacking.

“I have expressed our 100% backing for the coaching team,” he told a news conference on Sunday.

Bobic, 51, had only been with Hertha since 2021. Bernstein said his firing was not a knee-jerk reaction to the derby defeat but a “well-considered” decision, which was made regardless of the game’s outcome.

nion - ying high in second spot despite having less resources than Hertha - are now thinking big, with media speculation linking them with a move for former Real Madrid and Spain midfielder Isco.

He is a free agent after leaving Sevilla and nion are not denying their interest, although there is a chance it is all just an in-joke. “This victory is for you Isco,” nion captain Christopher Trimmel wrote on Instagram.

Isco reacted with a biceps emoji.

Trimmel’s team-mate Timo Baumgartl then wrote: “He’s coming ”
