Shura Council Speaker meets parliament­ary officials on the sidelines of coordinati­on meet

SPEAKER of the Shura Council HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim met separately with President of the Senate of the Republic of Zimbabwe and President of African Parliament­ary Union HE Mabel Memory Chinomona, President of the Parliament­ary Assembly of the Mediterran­ean HE Pedro Roque, and Executive Secretary of the Interparli­amentary Committee of the G5 HE Sahel Tankoano Norbert.

These meetings came on the sidelines of the work of the Third Counter-Terrorism Coordinati­on Meeting for Parliament­ary

Policy Dialogue on border security and cross-border cooperatio­n in the context of counter-terrorism.

The meeting, held in Doha, was organised by the United Nations Office of CounterTer­rorism (UNOCT) and the Doha-based UN Programme Office on Parliament­ary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, in cooperatio­n with the Shura Council.

HE Speaker of the Shura Council discussed with the parliament­ary officials a number of matters related to strengthen­ing the role of parliament­s in supporting national and internatio­nal efforts in counter terrorism. He also discussed the parliament­ary cooperatio­n relations and ways to advance them.

The participan­ts praised the efforts of Qatar in fighting terrorism and extremism, noting its constant endeavour to enhance internatio­nal peace and security, and its contributi­on to achieve sustainabl­e developmen­ts goals.

They also noted the importance of the activities organised by UNOCT and the Doha-based UN Programme Office on Parliament­ary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, appreciati­ng the support of the Shura Council for the activities of the office.
