Shell NXplorers honoured with ‘Best CSR Initiative in the Energy Sector’ award

QATAR Shell’s NXplorers programme, a school-based initiative that develops children’s criticalthinking and creativity skills, has won ‘Best CSR Initiative in the Energy Sector’ award at Qatar’s annual CSR Summit Awards.

An esteemed panel of judges recognised the organisers of NXplorers for their “dedication and commitment towards corporate social responsibility in Qatar”.

Rashid Al-Sulaiti, deputy general manager at Qatar Shell, commented: “In the four years since NXplorers was implemented in Qatar, we have seen significant growth and impact with the programme. Students and teachers have embraced it with open arms and every year we see more innovative and creative projects. Shell is extremely proud of the positive contribution the programme is making. I would like to thank everyone involved, especially our partners the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar Scientific Club and Ibtechar.

Receiving the award, Moza Al Darwish, who leads the Shell NXplorers programme, said: “Shell NXplorers is such a rewarding initiative to be part of. The students and their projects are an inspiration; they show an immense level of ingenuity to tackle complex issues. Receiving this award is a testament to the hard work of the students, teachers and our partners, who are a driving force behind the programme.”

NXplorers is implemented under a strategic partnership between Qatar Shell, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), and Qatar Scientific Club, with the support from Ibtechar.

The 4th edition of the programme is coming to a close. High-school students will be recognised for their innovative projects during the NXplorers 2023 closing ceremony next week. Twelve teams have been shortlisted as finalists, with four teams to be crowned as national champions.

Shell’s NXplorers programme is implemented in 20 countries and has benefited more than 35,000 students. The programme allows students to appreciate the strong partnership between educational institutions and industry, connecting them with leaders, instructors and industry experts who serve as positive role models.
