Australian-Egyptian oud virtuoso in Qatar

MEMBERS of the diplomatic community, prominent musicians, and music enthusiast­s were among the 200 invitees who attended a concert by Joseph Tawadros, the world-renowned Australian­Egyptian oud virtuoso and composer.

The Australian Embassy in Doha organised the visit to Qatar of the noted oud player from May 20 to 21. The Australian Government is supporting Joseph Tawadros’ tour of the region, which will also take him to Kuwait, Amman, and Cairo. The concert was held in the iconic Atrium of the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha from 05:30pm.

Joseph Tawadros is known for his unique fusion of the Arabic Maqam system with Western jazz and improvisat­ion. He has captivated audiences around the world with his innovative and dynamic performanc­es. His music is critically acclaimed. He is a seven-time ARIA award winner, and he has performed in prestigiou­s venues such as the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Lincoln Centre in New York.

In addition to the private concert, Joseph Tawadros also conducted a workshop for students at the Qatar Music Academy on 21st May including a jam session with oud players in Doha, both students and profession­als.

The Australian Embassy in Doha was honoured to host Joseph Tawadros in Doha and looks forward to promoting cultural exchange and cooperatio­n between Australia and Qatar.
