Dismissed Kahn to have talks with Bayern bosses after public argument

FORMER Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn said he’s to have talks with the club officials following his dismissal and a public argument with the club bosses.

“Once everything has cooled down, we will meet and talk calmly,” Kahn told the Bild newspaper.

The former goalkeeper and now Bayern former sporting director Hansan Salihamidzic were dismissed minutes after the Bavarians claimed a dramatic 11th consecutive Bundesliga title.

The duo has been criticized, among other things, for not signing a top striker to replace Robert Lewandowski, who moved to Barcelona last summer, and for surprisingly parting ways with coach Julian Nagelsmann late in March. While Salihamidzic was in Cologne with the team for the last matchday of the season, Kahn was not. Initially, reporters were told he had a cold and couldn’t travel.

But Bayern president Hebert Hainer told a news conference on Sunday that they “couldn’t part ways amicably” with Kahn, therefore, he wasn’t allowed to travel with the team to Cologne.

“I’m sure everyone can understand that I’m disappointed not to have been with the team,” Kahn said.

He added that he doesn’t consider himself a failure after two years as Bayern CEO.

“I took on this responsibility because I wanted to give something back to the club. That was not an easy task after the very successful time with Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge,” he said.

“The club is currently in a transitional phase, which is always difficult and in which mistakes sometimes happen. Even though the current situation is not easy, for me the many great experiences with Bayern far outweigh the negative ones.”

Bayern claimed a record-extending 11th consecutive title in a very dramatic way after Borussia Dortmund headed into the final round of matches in pole position for the trophy, but were held to a 2-2 draw with Mainz while the Bavarians took a late win at Cologne.
