QU Public Health master students present research project findings
THE Department of Public Health at the College of Health Sciences at Qatar University (QU) organised the Research Project Presentations for two candidates of the Master of Public Health Programme.
Under the supervision of Dr Manar Elhassan, Dr Randa Abidia and Dr Najah Alhashimi, student Mishael Al Hathal presented the findings of her research project entitled ‘Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics and Oral Hygiene Attitude and Practices among Qatar University Students’.
Her study suggests that there is an overall moderate level of dental self-confidence among university students, which varies significantly suggesting the influence of sociodemographic factors.
In addition, factors such as age and academic discipline influence various dental aesthetic factors such as dental self-consciousness, social and psychosocial impact of dental aesthetic.
The findings suggest that by considering the influence of oral hygiene habits, gender differences, disciplinary backgrounds and age, future interventions can be designed to cater to the diverse needs and challenges associated with dental aesthetics.
Under the supervision of Dr Mohammed Fasihul Alam and Dr Zeinab Al Kanaani, student Sajid Chalihadan presented the findings of his research project entitled ‘Enhancing Efficiency and Patient Outcome: A Retrospective Observational Study’.
By comparing the length of stay, admissions and discharges between Acute Assessment
Unit (AAU) and Acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMAU), the findings showed that AAU holds the capability to proficiently handle nearly twice the patient load compared to AMAU, resulting in a substantial improvement in patient flow without increase in readmission rate or mortality.
The findings indicate that incorporating similar units across all other healthcare facilities in Qatar may decrease the length of stay and allocate resources more efficiently.
