Sohni Dharti Junior PSL 2023 kicks off in style

ATOTAL of 90 players in six teams are participat­ing in the Sohni Dharti Junior PCL 2023 that kicked off in style at Al Khor recently. Chief guest Omer Badshah Bangash accompanie­d by Idrees Wial Badshah, Abdulrazik Khan, Abdulkhali­q Khan, Jassim Zahid Khan, Abdulrahma­n Wial Badshah, Hamad Mohammed Badshah, Sohni Dharti Chairman Anwar Ali Rana and Sports Secretary Sohni Dharti Zafar Chandio officially launched the tournament.

Speaking on the occasion, Omer Badshah Bangash motivated the young cricketers and announced an arrangemen­t for a meeting of the winning team with Pakistan’s cricket legend Shahid Afridi. He congratula­ted the Sohni Dharti team for promoting cricket among the children.

Sohni Dharti Chairman Anwar Ali Rana stressed the need to follow safety measures during the tournament. He said the prime objective behind organising such a tournament was to bring children out of their luxurious lives and comfort zones.

“Most of the children these days tend to spend their time indoors and remain glued to television, smartphone­s and other gadgets. Outdoor games improve the mental and physical health of children and outdoor exposure also shapes their personalit­y and helps them develop essential social skills,” remarked Rana.

Six teams, Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United and Multan Sultans will compete in the Sohni Dharti Junior

PSL2023. A total of 90 players have been equally distribute­d in the six teams.

Team captains are Zohaib Altaf, Mirza Asad Baig, Muhammad Ahmed, Muhammad Ahmad Bhatti, Muhammad Hamza and Muhammad Raza.

The coaches include Syed Nasooh Akhter (Lahore Qalandars), Aqeel Rasheed (Multan Sultans), Rana Atif (Islamabad United), Umer Khayyam (Peshawar Zalmi), Mohsin Ali (Karachi Kings) and Ghulam Farid (Quetta Gladiators).

Maqsood Ahmad Mangi, a wellknown personalit­y in the Pakistani community, has been chosen as the brand ambassador of Sohni Dharti Junior PCL 2023.

All the matches will be played at Al Nakheel Club, Al Khor Community under floodlight­s.

There will be a total of 18 matches in the tournament. All teams will play against each other at the league stage with the top four teams qualifying for the semifinal. The grand final and prize distributi­on ceremony will take place on June 9.
