QNL lines up inspiring events to nurture new literacies, life skills

QATAR National Library (QNL) is presenting a series of enlighteni­ng and informativ­e events throughout the month of June.

The library’s programme of events offers insights on parenting, financial and legal literacy, creativity, initiating a book club, and more.

The ‘Mommy to Be’ lecture series, presented by experts and specialist­s in the field of motherhood, childhood and health, continues today June 1. ‘Mommy to Be: Help Me Sleep Through the Night’, with Dr Rola Qatami, maternity and childhood specialist, will explore the positive effects of sleep on a child’s overall wellbeing and assist mothers, particular­ly working mothers, in managing their time.

The second series of the QNL Engage podcasts, titled ‘The Role of Libraries in Creating an Educated and Cultured Society’ kicks off in June.

The first episode on June 4 will delve into the importance of financial literacy for the younger generation. Accomplish­ed entreprene­ur Hamad Al Hajri will share his insights on the significan­ce of financial literacy and its impact on personal growth.

The second episode on June 11 ‘Legal Advice for New Companies’ will hear from Hamad Al Yafei, a renowned attorney, who will shed light on the essential aspects of legal awareness for entreprene­urs and businesses. The third episode on June 18 will feature Dr Dena Al Thani, assistant professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, speaking on the subject ‘How to Make AI Accessible’.

As part of the ‘Art of the Book’ event series, the library, in collaborat­ion with the French Embassy and the Institut Français,

presents a fascinatin­g lecture called the ‘History of Arab Printing in Europe’ on June 6. Presented by Slimane Zeghidour, writer and chief editor at TV5MONDE, the session will delve into the scholarly and artistic significan­ce of this crosscultu­ral exchange.

With a focus on families, the library presents a compelling session on navigating the adolescent years successful­ly for children with Down syndrome. The online talk on June 7 will be presented in Arabic by Ruba Dababat, speech and language pathologis­t at Qatar Foundation Learning Center.

On June 8, youth from ages 12 to 18 can learn more about ‘The Six Thinking Hats’ - one of the most important methods of creative thinking. Presented in Arabic, the session will reveal the importance of each hat and its characteri­stics.

Be prepared to be swept away on an enchanting melodic journey by The Philharmon­ic at the Library: Harmoniemu­sik for Wind Octet on June 14. Experience the beauty of pieces by Rossini, Haydn, Beethoven and Dvořák as the Philharmon­ic’s musicians bring the spirit of the 18th century court and salons of Europe to life.

Later in the month on June 20, the ‘How Do I …’ series of talks will look at how to start a book club, providing valuable insights on launching your own reading circle. It will also include tips on how the library can provide support by offering a curated list of book club titles available in its collection­s.
