Bangladesh ambassador praises Qatar’s success story, developmen­t

AMBASSADOR of Bangladesh to Qatar HE Nazrul Islam has praised the success story and developmen­t of Qatar under the leadership of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in various sectors including diplomacy, sports, and internatio­nal and regional peace and stability.

The envoy was addressing the Bangladesh National Day reception hosted by him at Hotel Waldorf Astoria Lusail. Present on the occasion were Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi; Gen SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh; Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Naval Staff, Bangladesh Navy; HE Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, Director of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar; HE Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Ahmed, Dean of the Diplomatic Crops; dignitarie­s, members of the diplomatic corp, guests and members of the Bangladesh­i community.

“Qatar has made remarkable strides in different areas of developmen­t to achieve goals under its Vision 2030,” said the Bangladesh­i envoy.

Talking about the relations between Qatar and Bangladesh, which have grown from strength to strength in diverse sectors in recent years, the envoy said that both countries closely work together on global issues including climate change, combating terrorism and extremism, health, and education under the UN platform.

He said that official exchange visits between both countries during last year have helped to further strengthen the ties as Bangladesh’s prime minister paid two official visits to Qatar last year. Moreover, two rounds of foreign visits took place during the last four years and three agreements were signed last year in the areas of defence, energy and culture.

The Bangladesh­i envoy said that they were awaiting the opportunit­y to assist the Qatari military forces with their personnel and experience as per the agreement.

He hoped that His Highness the Amir may pay a visit to Bangladesh during this year which will further strengthen bonds of friendship and more mutual engagement­s in diverse sectors.

He paid his gratitude to Qatar Charity and Qatar Foundation for their noble and humanitari­an services to the needy people in Bangladesh.

He praised the leadership of Qatar for presenting the most successful FIFA World Cup to the world followed by a host of internatio­nal events including Expo Doha 2023, Asian Cup and Web Summit Qatar.

Ambassador Islam paid his gratitude to the founder of the nation, Bangabandh­u late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and all those who made supreme sacrifices of their lives in achieving independen­ce in 1971. He said in the last decade, the country under the leadership of Prime Minister HE Sheikh Hasina continues to stay on track to achieve the goals set in the SDG 2030 global agenda and Bangladesh National Vision 2041.

The envoy said that his country graduated from the LDC status three years before and during the last one and a half decade under the present leadership became the ‘developmen­t miracle’ through enviable socio-economic progress defying all domestic and internatio­nal odds.

He said that Bangladesh is the 34th largest economy in the world and is set to be the 25th economy by 2030.

Women have been mainstream­ed in all national developmen­t and economic activities, he added.

He said that political stability, able leadership, strategic investment in digitizati­on, technologi­cal innovation, connectivi­ty, education and skill developmen­t have been the mainstay of the country’s developmen­t journey.

The envoy added that the unique Delta Plan aims to create a prosperous and climate-resilient delta for future generation­s.
