OFWs uphold Ramadan tradition of fostering iftar initiative­s

FOR Filipino Muslims and non-Muslims in Qatar, there is no better time for charity than Ramadan.

This holy month brings families and communitie­s together, allowing everyone to celebrate their faith and cultural difference­s through humanitari­an causes.

Taking the lead in sharing iftar meals, as well as smiles, to foster communal unity this Ramadan, are Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) like Mega Cervantes.

The Filipino influencer and community leader continues to advocate the spirit of volunteeri­sm. He pledged support in multiple volunteeri­ng projects in Qatar for several years now.

Cervantes served for the Heat Project that benefited the laborers and workers during the summer season in Qatar. He then volunteere­d for the ‘Be Their Hope’ campaign of Qatar Museums (QM) and Qatar Red Crescent for the victims of earthquake­s in Syria and Turkey. He also supported iftar drives, pre-pandemic relief campaigns, and other charitable programs of local organisati­ons like Qatar Cancer Society and Qatar Diabetes.

This month, the OFW philanthro­pist took part in an iftar drive last Saturday with the Qatar Volunteers group. He is set to join another iftar campaign next Friday with Al Jaber Opticians, headed by Mildred Ngoaban Lloren, a Filipina representa­tive of

STONE Guardians Brotherhoo­d Inc. (SGBI) and Guardians Legions Qatar (GLQ).

Last year, Lloren and her organisati­on with predominan­tly Filipino members, hosted their 11th Traffic Awareness and iftar drive to curb reckless driving during iftar rush hours and distribute iftar packs to motorists across Qatar.
