KACST to supply Saudi Post with latest maps

- MOHAMMED RASOOLDEEN

RIYADH: King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Saudi Post recently signed an agreement to get high resolution satellite images for updating the digital map to locate various parts of the Kingdom.

The accord was signed by KACST President Prince Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed Al-Saud and Osama bin Mohammed Saleh Altaf, the acting president of Saudi Post.

Under the program, KACST will support Saudi Post in getting high resolution images ranging from 50 cm to 150 cm to update the physical changes that have taken place at various locations in Saudi Arabia. Such images would help Saudi Post in the delivery services, Altaf said.

He said the project has strategic importance and it reflects the government’s commitment to keeping abreast of the latest global developments in the field of telecommunications and information technology.

KACST supports scientific research and innovation in national strategic areas and acts as the technical support to public and private sectors through its scientific and technical expertise.

Saudi Post is a public government corporation that regulates and provides postal services in the Kingdom. On the founding and unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by the late King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al-Saud, Saudi Post started its operations, which makes it the oldest public utility service.

Services provided by Saudi Post range from common postal services, such as mail, parcels, express mail and modern services, to online shopping, money transfers, and e-government transactions. Such services are provided to retail, government and business enterprises.

Saudi Post made large investment in the electronic and technological infrastructure of postal operations to raise the quality and speed up services.
