JEDDAH: Culture and Information Minister Adel Al-Toraifi has thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for his support for the preservation and development of culture and arts in the Kingdom.

He also extended his deepest condolences to King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammad bin Naif and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman on the death of those who sacrificed their lives in defense of their country.

The minister was speaking Thursday during his meeting with a number of writers and intellectuals at the Jeddah Literary Cultural Club. The minister renewed the condemnations of the Saudi cultural milieu against the cowardly terrorist operations aimed at homeland security in a bid to destabilize it.

Al-Toraifi said the Saudi Vision 2030, which came as a result of strenuous efforts made by Deputy Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, second deputy premier and defense minister, show how a good job can be done with speed.

Speaking on the vicious media campaigns waged against the Kingdom, the minister said: “The Ministry of Culture and Information, with the support of the wise leadership of the Kingdom, was able to stop the broadcast of the channels of Hezbollah via Arabsat and Nilesat. We will continue countering the culture and ideology of extremism and fueling sectarianism.”

He pointed out that some countries are using social networking sites to abuse the Kingdom, its institutions and people under false names and identities.

He reviewed during the meeting the initiatives of his ministry, including the royal complex for arts aimed at boosting arti- sans, and creative and cultural levels in the Kingdom, noting that a number of national workshops will be held to set out the framework and plans to establish a cultural commission.

Al-Toraifi said his ministry is currently in the process of developing a set of projects, mainly new electronic applications and websites, in addition to documentary films, to highlight the real image of the Kingdom, its history, geography and people.

He pointed out that there would be a per- formance indicator place in the lobby of the ministry’s premises to measure the performance of the ministry’s work and to show the proportion of the paperwork underway and what has already been achieved, and to follow up on the services extended to the beneficiaries of the services of the ministry.

The minister during the event paid tribute to Shoura member Abdullah Al-Askar who died on Friday in a road accident in Egypt. Al-Toraifi also sent a letter of condolences to the family of Al-Askar.
