West Indies, India clash abandoned due to rain

-

FORT LAUDERDALE, United States: The second Twenty20 International against the West Indies was abandoned due to rain at Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday

The rain though lasted less than half-an-hour, but the wet outfield could not be rectified for the resumption of the match due to the lack of super soppers in the ground.

West Indies won the series 1-0 by virtue of their dramatic one-run victory in the first game at the same venue. The result though have no impact on the standings of the two teams in the ICC T20I rankings as India remained at second spot ahead of West Indies.

After electing to bowl first, Indian bowlers produced a muchimproved performance to bundle out West Indies for 143 in 19.4 overs. And as soon as the India chase began the rain started. Rohit Sharma (10) and Ajinkya Rahane (4) were at the crease with India on 15 for no loss, when the covers were brought in and the match was stopped after two overs in the second innings.

Earlier, the match started after a delay of 40 minutes due to some technical issues but it was a refreshing sight to see Bhuvneshwar Kumar started off with two dot balls. Dhoni’s decision to field was vindicated by his bowlers with Amit Mishra leading the attack with three wickets for 24 and was well supported by Ravichandran Ashwin (2-11) and Jasprit Bumrah (2-26).
