Saudi recognized for work on energy consumption
RIYADH: Yousef Al-Shammari, A Saudi researcher at the University of Vienna, has won recognition overseas for his work on energy consumption. His research was included in the top 20 scientific papers to be presented at the World Energy Conference (WEC) in Istanbul in October 2016.
Last Friday, WEC announced the list of its top 20 scientists in the field of energy. The list included Al- Shammari. Other top scientists in the field of energy were from Germany, Britain, the US, Canada, India, France, Brazil, Argentina, the Netherlands, and Japan.
The research paper presented by Al-Shammari discussed the possibility of reducing carbon emissions in the Kingdom by 80 percent to achieve climate targets under low and medium oil prices.
The Saudi researcher recommended the promotion of investments in the separation and stor- age of carbon dioxide technology.
He also underscored the importance of raising the efficiency of energy consumption to reduce emission costs.
His research discussed the direct relationship between oil prices and the economic feasibility of carbon dioxide injection to improve production.
Al- Shammari, the only Arab member at the World Energy Council, expressed thanks to all those who have helped him in his research.
