Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup qualifying at Dirab tomorrow

RIYADH: For the second straight year, Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup holds a qualifying tournament for its 2017 edition at Dirab Golf & Country Club on Saturday.

The tournament, touted as the sport’s biggest amateur tournament with qualifiers worldwide, is an individual Stableford points format with full handicap. Maximum handicap is 24 for gentlemen and ladies. Any player with a handicap of 25 and above will be allocated a 24 handicap for the purpose of the event. Shotgun start will be at 8 a.m. The winner from the Riyadh qualifier will progress to the Grand Final in Belek, Turkey, set for Oct. 28 to Nov. 9.

There will also be prizes for the runner-up, third place, best gross and nearest-the-pin prizes for men and women.

The following prizes will be awarded: Winner gold trophy and model plane, second silver trophy and model plane, third bronze trophy and model plane, best gross score red trophy and model plane, ladies nearest to the pin Turkish Airlines trophy and men’s nearest to the pin Turkish Airlines trophy.

In order to be eligible to progress through to the grand final, organizers said the winner must hold a handicap issued by a validated handicap system that confirms to the regulation­s set out by the governing body and must have played in at least three handicap qualifying competitio­ns during the 12 months prior to the date of the qualifying event.

The winner must email proof of the three handicap qualifying competitio­ns to events@ ism.golf within 48 hours of the date of the qualifying event. Failure to provide this informatio­n by the deadline will deem the player not eligible to take part in the Grand Finals.

Turkish Airlines launched the World Golf Cup in 2013.
