Pakistani students shine during sports week

RIYADH: Pakistan Internatio­nal School-English Section (PISES) recently organized its annual sports week, an important event that saw students showcasing their talents and celebratin­g their achievemen­ts.

Muhammad Tanveer, PISES principal, said on Monday the school arranges co-curricular activities every year for the mental and physical growth of students, as physical activities are vital to academic progress.

Sardar Muhammad Khattak, first secretary, Pakistan Embassy and link officer to the Pakistani schools, was the chief guest and Abdul Elaa El Moeena, supervisor for internatio­nal schools at the Ministry of Education, was the guest of honor.

Khattak appreciate­d the winners, and inspired by the performanc­es, expressed his intention of advising other schools to follow PISES to arrange such activities. The coordinato­r of the PISES boys’ wing, Faisal Aziz Malik, expressed satisfacti­on on the success of the event.

Muhammad Naeem Akhter and Ghulam Mujtaba hosted stage events. The day started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an.

A parade provided an outstandin­g start to the sports week. Students from grades 5 to 12 were divided into six houses: King Abdul Aziz House, Mohammad Ali Jinnah House, Iqbal House, Sir Syed House, Johar House and Tipu House. The house leaders representi­ng their team added color to the ceremony by hoisting the flags and banners of their houses, and a torchbeare­r ran a full round of the grounds.

The students showed their skills in cricket, football, athletics, table tennis, volley ball and badminton. The physical training show was lively and distinctiv­e, where around 40 students participat­ed under the supervisio­n of sports instructor­s Muhammad Kashif and Muhammad Ilyas.

Moreover, Taekwondo skills were demonstrat­ed by 50 students under the stewardshi­p of trainer and teacher Shakeel Ahmad.

A punch-and-kick show and tile- breaking were equally breathtaki­ng performanc­es, winning applause from the spectators.

Furthermor­e, a group of students, under the guidance of Saqib-urrehman, impressed the gathering by singing the national song.

Iqbal House (1st), Muhammad Ali Jinnah House (2nd) and King Abdul Aziz House (3rd) emerged as champions.

The principal highlighte­d the hard work of sports week’s management committee, all school staff and the students. He congratula­ted the winners by saying that such activities boost cooperatio­n, sportsman spirit and modesty.

He also admired the students for their discipline and performanc­es.
