Al-Tayyer United Contracting edges Shadow Bowlers for honors
JEDDAH: Al-Tayyer United Contracting beat Shadow Bowlers in the battle between teams seeking their first Team of the Week award during the eighth session in the OFBC Friday Afternoon League Season 6 at the Iceland Bowling Center here.
Al-Tayyer emerged from the thrilling fight for honors with the top total of 28 points and Shadow Bowlers just a point behind on 27, marking the third straight week a different team had scored a breakthrough victory. Joel Nidoy’s Al-Tayyer squad sent Velocity Strikers reeling to their second straight defeat with a 18-2 victory in their match on total pinfalls of 2,038-1,979 and rank points of 10 and 7.
Besides the Al-Tayyer win there were other Week 8 surprises — Arci-5 beating three-time Team of the Week RTJ Transient House 18-2 (2,022-1,881 and 8-5) and Shadow Bowlers giving last session’s Team of the Week Toshi a reality check in an 18-2 triumph on total pinfalls of 2,029-1,685 and rank points of 9-1.
Nilobabes, meantime, consolidated its hold on first place in the team standings by beating SGH Bowling Group 18-2 (1,978-1,848 and 6-4) to finish the session on 24 points behind Arci-5’s 26, while The Expendabowls downed Youngsters 16-4 (1,837-1,812 and 3-2).
The individual Bowler of the Week race had Sergio Modar of Arci-5 claiming the men’s division award on 564 and Velocity’s Darlene Bulalayao the ladies plum on 523.
Jojo Esperanzate was at the helm of the Tayyer charge on 553 with the husband
and wife team of Alex Duma and Carmen Duma contributing 536 and 496. The fourth player in the rotation, Jack Jarin, added 454.
Shadow Bowlers built their total around the quartet of veteran Hadi Pacheco, Rosalie Due Agustin, Hercie Bosito and Edwin Agustin who shot respective rounds of 546, 523, 514 and 446.
Ramon Fabro tallied 513 to back up Modar at Arci-5 with Delia Javing on 486 and Babes Yushimine on 439.
